Summary

A Russian plot to seize the Panama Canal plunges President Jack Ryan into a desperate fight for his life in the latest entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series。

For a century, the Panama Canal has served as the path between the seas。 Control of this vital waterway is the difference between free trade and chaos in world markets。

So when Panamanian President Rafael Botero asks for a show of support against the socialist opposition, his old friend President Jack Ryan can’t turn down an invitation to visit the country, but what seems like an ordinary opportunity to preach the values of democracy quickly turns into a nightmare when a full-blown coup d’état erupts。

President Ryan and his Secret Service team are cut off and out of communication。 In Washington, the Vice President is coordinating a military response, but there's still one more obstacle。

One of the main forces behind the coup is the ruthless criminal organization known as the Camarilla。 They’ve had their tentacles deep inside the plot to overthrow the government。 All of their hard work has just presented them with an unexpected opportunity they can’t resist—the chance to kill President Jack Ryan。

Not your father's Jack Ryan This is a very interesting yarn very easy to get lost in the pages as a good book should be。 Although it's listed as a "Jack Ryan" book comparing this with something like Hunt For Red October, Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games, our hero isn't the focus of the story the same way he was in the books I mentioned and others。 But those were by Mr Clancy himself Mr Cameron does honor to T。C。 but he's not Tom。 All and all I recommend this book I enjoyed it as a "goo Not your father's Jack Ryan This is a very interesting yarn very easy to get lost in the pages as a good book should be。 Although it's listed as a "Jack Ryan" book comparing this with something like Hunt For Red October, Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games, our hero isn't the focus of the story the same way he was in the books I mentioned and others。 But those were by Mr Clancy himself Mr Cameron does honor to T。C。 but he's not Tom。 All and all I recommend this book I enjoyed it as a "good read" cause I was disappointed that it ended and I have to find something to read now。 Thank You for reading my opinion 。。。more

Love this series!

Marc Cameron’s last contribution to the Tom Clancy - Jack Ryan universe was outstanding! Loved this book from start to finish!

I always love a new Tom Clancy。 Normally I prefer the new generation with The Campus and Jack Ryan Jr and the spy stuff, but didn’t realize this was a mix of that plus largely Jack Ryan (sr , OG)。 This also was more of a direct conflict/ coup / terrorism more than spy craft。 But, I still thought it was interesting learning more about Panama and the Panama Canal。 Excited for the next ones as we get a couple new characters set up here for the campus。

Always good to read a Jack Ryan book, never disappointed。 Extra special if the Campus is involved directly or indirectly。 Thanks!

Mostly good bookA very good version of a Clancy book。 I don't want to give anything away but the last 50 or so pages seemed rushed or hurried。 It was as if he。had reached his limit。of words and needed to hurry and finish。 After the first 350 or so pages which were classic Clancy -esq the finish was。quite a letdown。 Mostly good bookA very good version of a Clancy book。 I don't want to give anything away but the last 50 or so pages seemed rushed or hurried。 It was as if he。had reached his limit。of words and needed to hurry and finish。 After the first 350 or so pages which were classic Clancy -esq the finish was。quite a letdown。 。。。more

Another amazing book in the Ryanverse!!!In this one you will find not only plot centered in Jack Ryan but also other main characters in Ryanverse: Mary Pat Foley, John Clark, Ding Chavez。。。。Also Campus team has an active role (I would have liked Jak Ryan Jr being more active) and it's expanding the team。Ready for the next one!!! Every single time I start one of these books, I say the same thing to myself: Self, you'll never be able to keep all the characters and storylines straight。 And you know what? A few chapters into it, and I'm really INTO it - you know what I mean? The same thing happened here, with an added thought that I'm in awe of any writer who is able to even conceive of such complex concepts, much less weave them together so well。 I'm sorry to learn that this is the last in the series he'll be penning。Centr Every single time I start one of these books, I say the same thing to myself: Self, you'll never be able to keep all the characters and storylines straight。 And you know what? A few chapters into it, and I'm really INTO it - you know what I mean? The same thing happened here, with an added thought that I'm in awe of any writer who is able to even conceive of such complex concepts, much less weave them together so well。 I'm sorry to learn that this is the last in the series he'll be penning。Central to the plot this time out is Panama, where President Rafael Botero has asked his old friend, U。S。 President Jack Ryan, to make an unscheduled visit to boost his image during a time of growing unrest。 On the other sides of the equation are Botero's enemies (who at best want him deposed and at worst dead) and the Russians, who would love to swoop in and save the day。In the midst of that, though, is another angle; a mission by members of the Campus, a secretive elite group that includes President Ryan's son, Jack Jr。, took out a formidable murderer who, it turns out, has a sister who is even more lethal。 Not happy with losing her brother, she sets out to get rid of the person who ordered his killing - none other than Ryan's Director of National Intelligence, Mary Pat Foley (and just for good measure, her elderly husband)。 Both situations heat up fast with a coup d'etat in Panama that quickly threatens President Ryan and his small protective entourage。 It extends to Mary Pat, who entered the country with her President but took off in another direction, and to Jack Jr。's group, which seems to have garnered attention from some very nasty people all on their own。 Of course, I can't offer more details except to say that they're all juicy。 All told, another one well done, and I heartily thank the publisher, via NetGalley, for allowing me to read and review it。 。。。more

Admitted Jack Ryan series junkie (a little biased) thought this was a good quality read。 Kept my interest throughout the book - little light on the existing Campus operatives but partly due to introducing 2 new members。 Interesting subject bringing Panama into the equation - got a good education on how the locks in the Canal work - not something in current focus on the world stage but a bit thought provoking with the Superpowers finding a new battleground。 I've been pleased with how the various Admitted Jack Ryan series junkie (a little biased) thought this was a good quality read。 Kept my interest throughout the book - little light on the existing Campus operatives but partly due to introducing 2 new members。 Interesting subject bringing Panama into the equation - got a good education on how the locks in the Canal work - not something in current focus on the world stage but a bit thought provoking with the Superpowers finding a new battleground。 I've been pleased with how the various authors (Mark Greaney being my favorite) have kept up the mantle on the Clancy franchise (actually appreciate the lesser details on the military aspects with the next gen writers)。 Cameron didn't disappoint。 。。。more

It is billed as a Jack Ryan (Sr) book but there are chapters where new/old characters from "The Campus" in the Jack Ryan Jr series are featured。 It drags a bit in spots and the plot of why this is happening in Panama takes a while to get to。 There's corrupt Panamanian police (big surprise), Russians in the canal, a coup , a crazy cartel person after Mary Pat Foley and all of this happening simultaniously。Not as riveting as previous books。 It is billed as a Jack Ryan (Sr) book but there are chapters where new/old characters from "The Campus" in the Jack Ryan Jr series are featured。 It drags a bit in spots and the plot of why this is happening in Panama takes a while to get to。 There's corrupt Panamanian police (big surprise), Russians in the canal, a coup , a crazy cartel person after Mary Pat Foley and all of this happening simultaniously。Not as riveting as previous books。 。。。more

Tom Clancy Command and ControlI have read all 23 books in the Jack Ryan series。 I have to tell you, Tom Clancy has to be looking down on Marc Cameron with a chest swelled with pride。 This may be the best adventure ever。

Fast-paced Jack Ryan Novel, where Jack Snr - USA President, is encouraged to take a short stopover in Panama - much to the disagreement of his security chief。

excellent, kept me rivetedBelievable plot, actions from our favorite characters and love the new additions。 Marc does a wonderful job of weaving the story together with excellent suspense

Fast pacedBut the two Jack Ryan’s take a minor role in this action packed novel。 Hats off to Cameron for an engaging story and using the other fine characters in this series。

Wow, another great instalment into the Ryan universe

long on setup short on plot75% of this book has gone before the story got into gear。 It was dispatched with only a few of the normal characters and a lot left unsaid。 This was not a normal Jack Ryan story。

Emir

Non-stop action following your favorite Clancy heroes。 This is a great companion to the Jack Ryan Jr novels。 Even thought it references previous books, it is not necessary to have read them (but you should)。 This was a fantastic action thriller and a real page turner。 Highly recommended。

I loved how everything worked together! We saw Jack Sr and MP doing their thing along with Ed and Cathy - and still got to see the Campus with John and Chavez。 Great book for anyone who loves the Clancy Universe!

Cameron started out slowly in the addition to the Jack Ryan Series but he ended with a bang。 From not liking the book I ended up loving it。 Give it a go。 You won’t be sorry。

I am tired of this site swallowing my reviews, damn it!This isn’t anywhere near as good as the last one Cameron wrote。 He’s coasting。 It’s too short; it skimps on tech; and it’s a single, straight-line story, as opposed to two plots combining。

A very good story, one of the best by an author using a dead author's characters and plot style。 The heroes intervene in a coup in Panama, saving the day。 Quite readable and captivating。 MG should write using his own characters。 A very good story, one of the best by an author using a dead author's characters and plot style。 The heroes intervene in a coup in Panama, saving the day。 Quite readable and captivating。 MG should write using his own characters。 。。。more

Command and Control brings the Jacks together in Panama。 So much military and maritime history in Panama。 The Campus adds some new members with some history with Clark and Ryans。 A man, a plan, a canal-Panama。

A strong finish in this series for Marc Cameron, who's created an original premise and set it in a unique location in Panama。 The structure of the story also felt very Clancy-esque, with the first seventy-five percent comprising a slow build-up with growing tension and complications, and all the action suddenly kicking in for the final quarter。 The Campus take a back seat here as it brings onboard two new operators and the Secret Service instead is at center stage for most of the action, along w A strong finish in this series for Marc Cameron, who's created an original premise and set it in a unique location in Panama。 The structure of the story also felt very Clancy-esque, with the first seventy-five percent comprising a slow build-up with growing tension and complications, and all the action suddenly kicking in for the final quarter。 The Campus take a back seat here as it brings onboard two new operators and the Secret Service instead is at center stage for most of the action, along with the mercenary group the Camarilla, whom the authors will hopefully continue to utilize as an "evil" version of The Campus。 This series has been running for a while, and although the characters are becoming a little tired, these are still generally some of the best quality thrillers you'll find from mainstream publishing。 And there's room for it to continue as new, younger characters constantly join The Campus and the next book looks to shift direction entirely and focus on Katie Ryan。 The biggest thing holding it back, though, is keeping Ryan as President。 The preview at the end for the next Clancy book has Ryan still as president and Katie Ryan a naval officer。 One of Mark Greaney's books, which takes place within the same four-year term as president, states that Katie was in high school。 So within a span of two-to-three years she somehow graduates high school, attends and graduates from the Naval Academy, and becomes an officer with Navy Intelligence? Nah。 Time to retire Ryan from the presidency already and find some other role for him (how about speaker of the house, ambassador to Russia, CIA director, or have him take over Hendley Associates。 Anything is more plausible at this point)。 。。。more

Hey Guys This week I’ve finished Command and Control by Marc Cameron。 First of all this is the last book of the author for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Sr series and he has done amazing work for this series so far and thanks for that。 When USG conducts a covert operation against a Mercenary unit which was responsible for the events of the novel Chain of Command a new threat surface on the aftermath of that covert op。 Meanwhile US President Jack Ryan Sr plans a surprise visit to Panama for showing his Hey Guys This week I’ve finished Command and Control by Marc Cameron。 First of all this is the last book of the author for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Sr series and he has done amazing work for this series so far and thanks for that。 When USG conducts a covert operation against a Mercenary unit which was responsible for the events of the novel Chain of Command a new threat surface on the aftermath of that covert op。 Meanwhile US President Jack Ryan Sr plans a surprise visit to Panama for showing his support for it’s President to the world as to curb the increasing influences of Russia and other power players in Latin America。 History repeats as Jack Ryan always have rocky relationship when it comes to Latin America and this time he is the middle of coup and lost all of the communications with his Government。 Parallelly Two new recruits joined The Campus and pushed into the field with other veterans to curb that threat which has been morphed into a new set of problems to the people who are all involved in that assassination。 How these storylines converge also whether all of our questions regarding some of the loose threads of his previous novels are answered or not forms the rest of the story。 If you’re expecting this novel to be like White House Down or London has fallen genre then you’ll be disappointed as the author sticked to the real-life scenario as close as possible。 Each and every combat scene was perfectly written in a way that it was believable at the same time as bloody even large scale as possible。 As I said above two new characters has been added for the campus and both of the characters are from his previous novels has been provided with proper backstory and well-developed characteristics。 As the story evolves new characters are given ample space so that they can be well established and some of the long forgotten members of Sr novels like Midas, Ed Foley etc are written well in this novel。 Surprisingly Jr’s involvement in this novel is kept minimum so that other characters can shine in their given space。 More than combat scenes the anticipation of what’s going to happen next is the juiciest part of this novel。 Minutes before coup and the consecutive reaction that happens in Panama Canal because of this coup was a blast to read。 I really like the way US Secret Service were portrayed in this novel as their valor and sacrifice were shown in a perfect manner as they’re not typecasted as glorified bodyguards or personal assassins。 I really enjoyed the mature romance between Ryan and Cathy which is one of a kind in our thriller series and the way she is still nursing her psychological wounds was pretty moving to read。 On the whole this novel is a blast to read and definitely a perfect send off by the author for us。 Thank you Marc we will miss you and I hope you’ll kickstart your Jericho Quinn series again。 Welcome Andrews & Wilson I’ve read the first two chapters of Act of Defiance since I don’t want to spoil it so enjoy this hint ‘Task Force 59’ and ‘Belgograd’。 Thanks for reading my reviews Please go and read this novel to enjoy the Tom Clancy style Modern Thriller。 。。。more
